Lessons from Mercury Retrograde 2025

Actualizado: 3 abr

Beyond whether you believe in Mercury retrograde or not, it is a fact that in my life, at least, even without knowing it is happening, this event always comes with a wave of chaotic and conflicting situations. Strangely enough, it’s always things breaking down, unexpected expenses, or shifts in my interpersonal relationships.

A year ago, I moved into a new home. This home has two water pumps—one inside the cistern and one outside. The one inside the cistern doesn’t work well, but due to logistical reasons, my plumber connected it to a switch inside the house. This switch was installed by a family friend specifically so that our baby couldn’t reach it. But one way or another, she managed to turn it on without us realizing it. :/

I found out when I received my electricity bill—my heart nearly stopped when I saw the amount due. It was absurdly high. In a panic, I tried to see if it was a mistake from the electric company or if there was another possible explanation.

Our electrician friend came to check it out. Two weeks before, when I had received a water delivery, I had noticed that the water in my cistern was hot and producing steam. But honestly, even though I noticed it, I didn’t think much of it. My mind didn’t generate any kind of explanation, but it did store that observation away in case I needed it later. And sure enough, when I filled my cistern with water again a few weeks later, it was hot.

Long story short, I was sitting on my couch, trying to relax, when my brain suddenly pulled that stored information out. I looked over at the switch and—surprise!—it was ON (Crying internally) I told our friend, and he confirmed that yes, that was the issue—the pump. He came over, cut the cable so my baby couldn’t turn it on again, and explained, along with a plumber, that the pump had been consuming an exorbitant amount of electricity and heating the water because it was creating some kind of resistance. I felt a huge sense of relief knowing that we had identified the problem.

However, I also observed how difficult it can be to manage anxiety and distress, at least for me. The mind clouds over, panic takes over, and yet, in the end, everything has a solution. Over the past few years, I’ve noticed that although Mercury retrograde brings a lot of breakdowns and disruptions, they are always, without fail, connected to an acceleration of our growth—a growth that is often long-awaited and sometimes even URGENT, one that wouldn’t happen otherwise. That’s why it can feel so overwhelmingly intense.

I’ve often read or heard that people recommend staying still and avoiding action during Mercury retrograde. Personally, I see this as a trap or a poor interpretation of the event. If Mercury retrograde is about evolution, it doesn’t make sense to stop and avoid things. Some situations are inevitable, no matter what we do or don’t do—that’s exactly what this period shows us. I’ve found that taking action and moving forward is actually more effective. Yes, it can bring a flood of challenges to resolve, both internally and externally in our practical daily lives, but this helps us recalibrate aspects we may not have considered before. I see it as an opportunity to accelerate growth, which means we should act and move forward.

I hadn’t written a blog post in a long time due to personal reasons. But for one reason or another, despite the chaos and strangeness of these days, everything aligned for me to have the space to write and share. I didn’t want to let the opportunity pass because I don’t know when it will come again. This, too, is an example of how something that seems disastrous can also bring the opposite—a surge of energy for change and action.

So, even if there are superstitions, they only exist to limit us. If you do believe in this, I’d say—don’t be afraid. Maybe prepare yourself in a practical way and handle things as best you can, but remember that it is also a great portal for movement, action, and growth. And keep in mind that this opportunity is available every day, but sometimes the stars literally help us remember.

In my case, it makes me grateful for the support of my nuclear and extended family. Even when I feel overwhelmed, I know there’s always a way to resolve things in a better, less stressful way. A bad day can also turn into a blessing.

I appreciate this opportunity to share. How does Mercury retrograde affect you, or do you not believe in it at all? Haha, sending you a hug!
